Downland cycles provide specialist training courses in bike maintenance and frame building. All level of students are catered for from absolute beginner to those hoping to build a career in the cycle industry. The training centre is located in the Kent countryside in well equipped workshops.

These courses are vocationally related qualifications (VRQ's) and are aimed at learners who wish to develop understanding and skills in the building, servicing, repair and maintenance of cycles.
The skills and knowledge aquired can be used for career progression into the cycle maintenance and repair sector. These qualification also suit individuals with a keen interest in cycles.
These qualifications contain mandatory and additional units. Mandatory units are those which are considered to be essential for the learners to achieve. The additional units are included to offer learners the option of continuing and broadening their studies in specific areas of interest.
Our three day course gives you the opportunity to learn the art of wheel building. During the course you will learn both the theory of wheel building as well as the skills and techniques involved in building wheels.
The course is suitable for complete beginners, no previous experience is expected from you before taking the course. by the end of the three days you will be equipped with all the knowledge necessary to go on to be an expert wheel builder, given practice.
The course is a mixture of theory and practical hands on experience.
Third day of the course allows you the opportunity to build yourself a set of wheels to your own specifications. Buy the hubs and rims of your choice and build a set of wheels to take away and ride. (if you want something specific or exotic please ask us to order it before you arrive).
Internal Hub Gears
A one day course learning how to service and maintain internal hub gears
Hubs covered on the course are: Sturmey Archer, Shimano Nexus and Alfine, Brompton's Sturmey Archer Hubs and Rohloff.
Our one and a half day suspension course will teach you how to strip clean and rebuild a variety of suspension forks. Forks from, Magura, Rockshox, Manitou and Marzocchi will be worked on to give you a full understanding of how each system works.
The remainder of the second day leaves time for you to service your own suspension systems
